Somalia: Heavy Fighting is Underway in Mogadishu for the Fourth Day



Mogadishu — At least ten people were killed and more than thirty others were injured in heavy fighting between pro government Islamic Courts forces and Islamist rebels in Mogadishu, witnesses said on Sunday.

"At least 4 people of one family died and 5 others were injured after a mortar landed near Sinai intersection in Wardhigley district this morning," witnesses told Shabelle radio

Most areas where the heavy fighting continuing is parts of Wardhigley district in Mogadishu especially around the police station where forces loyal to Hisbul Islam (Islamic party) are present and reports say that fighting broke out in that district started after explosions targeted to a vehicle belonged by a Somali MP who is pro government Islamic Courts which was traveling near the police station killing two and injuring three others.

Resident told Shabelle that another mortar landed in outside a house near Ged-jacel neighborhood in Mogadishu killing a woman and injuring 3 others there.

Ali Muse, one of the emergence ambulances officials said that they rushed more than 30 injured people to the hospitals adding that they took those people from different neighborhoods in the areas of the fighting in Mogadishu.

The intensifying fighting comes as many of the parts of the population calling for the warring sides to stop the fighting and talk together to end the conflicts.
