JEDDAH: Muslims in the kingdom are enjoined to observe the crescent that marks the end of Ramadan.
A report by the Saudi Press Agency today quoted a Supreme Court statement calling on all Muslims in the kingdom "to sight the crescent of the month of Shawwal on Friday evening, Ramadan 29, 1433 A.H, corresponding to August 17, 2012, according to Umm Al-Qura Calendar."
Whoever sees the crescent by naked eyes or through binoculars may report to the nearest court and register his testimony, the statement said.
If there is no judge in the area where sighting was made, the person who did the sighting may report to the region's governorate to facilitate his access to the nearest court, it said.
The fasting month of Ramadan started in Saudi Arabia and in most Arab countries last July 20.
